“I’m not just sickening. I’m contagious”. This week we bid adieu to Alexis Mateo, which was a very sad goodbye. Alexis brought so much entertainment to the season and is such an underrated queen. It is unfortunate that she didn’t get to shine more this season as she is definitely worthy of an All Stars crown. Even more unfortunate is that she got tarnished and threatened in deeply racist ways by many fans simply because she brought some intriguing drama to the show. In spite of all this, Alexis left holding her head up high and proclaiming, “sickening no?” to which the answer is of course a resounding yes.

Alexis sashaying away brings us to our final 4. While I would have preferred Alexis to stay instead of Blair, this is still one of the fairest seasons of All Stars yet. In All Stars 3 and 4, queens who had the highest cumulative score on the chart wound up sashaying in the episodes leading up to the final 4. Bendelacreme eliminated herself in All Stars 3 while she was leading the chart with a score of 10, and Naomi Smalls eliminated Manila Luzon in All Stars 4 while Manila was leading the chart with a score of 6. Jujubee, Shea, Cracker and Blair have all been near the top of the chart for this whole season, so statistically they make sense as our last queens standing.  That said, Alexis had the same scoring going into this episode as Blair, so she easily could have there as well.

It seems likely that we will get a final 3 in our finale instead of a final 4, unless there is a double shante next episode (we have yet to have one this season). Blair seems likely to go next, but she will have done so while vastly improving her placement from season 10 (which conveniently was one of my lists in my blog for episode 4). If Blair does go this week, she will have improved her placement by 5 (she placed 9th in season 10) which ties her with Trixie Mattel, Monique Heart and Monet Exchange for the 2nd biggest improvement between regular season and All Stars placement of all time. If Blair were to make final 3, she would tie Shangela (who has an average of 6 in improved placement in All Stars 3 from seasons 2 and 3). That seems less likely, but crazier things have happened.

On the chart, Jujubee continues to dominate with a score of 6 after another week of positive critiques. Miz Cracker is next with a score of 4 after her win this week. Shea Coulee has a score of 3 while Blair St. Claire sits in last place with 0.

It is interesting that Jujubee is so far ahead on the chart, yet it seems so obvious from watching the season that this is Shea Coulee’s crown and we are just biding time until she is given it. Jujubee is certainly a deserving winner but drag race crowns more often than not are given to queens with the most captivating narrative instead of the queens who has quietly and steadily done the best over the season. I think it would be a huge mistake not to give the crown to Shea given her history of losing unexpectedly in season 9 and our current political climate. This season was filmed a year ago and it’s clear to me the producers likely thought it could be possible for Cracker to get the win them (we know from last season’s sloppy pasted together double win footage that the producers can decide during the airing of the season who the winner will be, since they often film multiple queens winning). It seems impossible that Cracker could win now. So, Shea will take the crown but Jujubee will forever be an iconic runner up, and both have cemented their places on the list of all-time great queens in drag race herstory. Below you can find my predictions!

QueenPredicted Placement

Blair St. Claire
4

Miz Cracker
3

Jujubee
2

Shea Coulee

YOU’RE A WINNER BABY!

For my lists this week, I wanted to keep it a bit simple and look at which season now has the most All Stars who have made the final 4.  That list is below!

Season 1: Shannel (AS1), Bebe Zahara Benet (AS3) – 2

Season 2: Raven (AS1), Jujubee (AS1/AS5), Shangela (AS3)- 3

Season 3: Shangela (AS3)- 1

Season 4: Chad Michaels (AS1)-1

Season 5: Alaska (AS2), Detox (AS2), Roxxxy Andrews (AS2)- 3

Season 6: NA

Season 7: Kennedy Davenport (AS3), Katya (AS2), Trxie Mattel (AS3)- 3

Season 8: Naomi Smalls (AS4)- 1

Season 9: Trinity the Tuck (AS4), Shea Coulee (AS5)-2

Season 10: Miz Cracker (AS5), Monet X Change (AS4), Monique Heart (AS4), Blair St. Claire (AS5)- 4

Overall:

 1. Season 10-4

 2. (Tie) Season 2, Season 5, Season 7-3

5. (Tie) Season 1, Season 9-2

7. (Tie) Season 3, Season 4, Season 8-1

As you can see, season 10 now has the most queens who have made the final 4, followed by seasons 7, 5 and 2. Why might this be? Well, as Ru would say, I don’t see how that’s any of your business. Even so, I’ll speculate wildly. Season 10 aired after All Stars 3, and at that point All Stars had become a viable and steady franchise. So unlike earlier seasons, both queens and producers on season 10 knew assuredly that coming back on All Stars could was a distinct possibility for many of the queens. The producers may have kept better in touch with queens kicked off of season 10 and the queens likely began preparing for All Stars more seriously as a result. Also, All Stars 3 saw the crowing of Trixie Mattel, a queen who placed outside the final 4 on her original season of season 7. The winners of All Stars 1 and 2 were both queens who made it to the final 4 of their original seasons. I think this likely gave producers more confidence to keep queens who placed lower in their original seasons in All Stars for longer. Finally, Drag Race’s popular has grown exponentially over the past few seasons as it moved to VH1 and continued to grow as a mainstream pop culture phenomenon. It makes sense that producers would want to reward and keep queens from the seasons that the most fans are familiar with in as many episodes of All Stars as possible. Finally, of course the four queens of Season 10 who made it to the final 4s of the last two All Stars are talented and did great things on their seasons that helped they make it there as well.

With that, a huge prop again to miss Mateo and I hope for amazing things in her future (including taking India on in a reunion! Give it to us gay gods!) Also, it’s still a pandemic so (WEAR A MASK! and) treat yourself to an extra helping of Roxxxy Andrew’s cakes below. With that, let the music play!
