The Social Netwerq (with a Covid addendum): Rupaul’s Stats Race, Season 13, Episodes 8 and 9

BLACK LIVES MATTER!  I fully support the ongoing movement to combat and dismantle the systemic racism that has devastated our country for centuries. Please review the following resources and donate, march, learn and be active. Www.Linktr.ee/nationalresourceslist

Bring back my girls! I let my evil twin/inner saboteur run wild last week and took the excuse of the Covid special to not post a blog.  I ready for snatch game and hopefully a solid run of episodes with eliminations (even some double would make sense), because this season is the Gone with the Wind of Drag Race seasons (without quite as much overt racism). This week’s Covid special officially turned the tide- we now have had more episodes this season where a queen didn’t go home than ones where a one did. Since all I learned from the Covid special was that Rosé has a cute boyfriend and Joey Jay brought an external hard drive filled with porn to his pre-filming sequestered quarantine, please enjoy this delayed recap of the episode from 2 weeks ago. Hopefully were in for a good snatch. Enjoy!

THOTS

  • Love her or hate her (and Instagram users seem to feel the latter- Tina has by far the fewest followers of any queen this season)- Tina shouldn’t have been in the bottom. Her performance as the MShe was well done and her runway of course was bad, but still far from her worst. I would’ve put Utica or Elliott in the bottom instead.
  • Was it truly a double shante? I think not- Kandy was clearly told to sashay which to mean does denote that she lost the lipsync. Either way, was this lipsync worthy of a double shante? For me- no. Is it the worst double shante? Not even close. On my list here, I’d put this one at number 11, above Raven vs. Jujubee and below Heidi N Closet and Jackie Cox.
  • Elliott with 2 Ts doing a Bille Eillish impression as her Snapchat character was one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen.
  • I agreed with Michelle that Rosé’s outfit was orange. I saw the dress as blue FYI.
  • Olivia’s outfit in the challenge was hideous and unacceptable. As Bob the Drag Queen noted on Sibling Watchery, why did she even have that with her? Gottmik’s runway, on the other hand, was spectacular.

CHART

  • We have a new chart supreme: Olivia “Watch Me Play on the Keys” Lux. While Symone faltered this episode, Olivia stayed steady. I’m not saying anything because I have nothing nice to say.
  • Elliott and Utica are still tied for last place. If history is any indication, one of Elliott or Utica should go home. My bet would be on Elliott, but I wouldn’t be shocked at Utica or Denali having a Snatch Game disaster.
  • Gottmik, Symone and Rosé are in a 3-way tie for 2nd place. This strengthens my prediction that they along with Olivia are our final 4.
  • Rose’s win caps a 6-week streak of being ranked safe and high. She’s quiet, but supery consistent.
  • Kandy, Tina, Elliott and Utica are the only queens who haven’t won. They could easily be our next 4 to go (though I think Denali will sashay before Kandy).

PREDICTIONS

  1. Gottmik (=)
  2. Symone (=)
  3. Olivia Lux (=)
  4. Rosé (=)
  5. Kandy Muse (=)
  6. Tina Burner (+1)
  7. Denali (-1)
  8. Utica (+1)
  9. Elliiott with 2 Ts (-1)
  10. Lala Ri (Preseason Prediction: 6th, Most Recent Pre-Elimination Prediction: 8th)
  11. Tamisha Iman (Preseason Prediction: 12th, Most Recent Pre-Elimination Prediction: 11th)
  12. Joey Jay (Preseason Prediction: 11th, Most Recent Pre-Elimination Prediction: 12th)
  13. Kahmora Hall (Preseason Prediction: 10th; Most Recent Pre-Elimination Prediction: 12th)
  • Pretty solid in my top 5. I think Kandy will get a second wind, and our top 4 is pretty locked in.
  • Denali is definitely not going to be around much longer. She’s very much getting the also ran edit.
  • Elliott with 2 Ts seems like an obvious next out, but if she sneaks by this episode, it would not be impossible for her to outlast Denali, and Tina.

LIST

8 Queens who Could Have Played Anne Hathaway’s Role in Devil Wears Prada Better:

This week we learned that Anne Hathaway was the 9th choice for her character in The Devil Wears Prada. There has been little investigative progress made thus far to unearth the top 8 (we got one with Rachel McAdams), so I decided to list the 8 Queens I think could have done an equal or better job in the role of Andy Sachs.

1. Chi Chi Devayne: Chi Ch was a fabulous queen, a capable actress, and a queen who’s real life fashion sense mixed low-brow materials with high-quality concepts and execution. Meryl would have been lucky to passive-aggressively spar with a queen this amazing.

2. Jinkx Monsson: Such a talented actress who could easily incorporate the quirky everyday girl aspects of the character (while likely adding a brassy drunk twist).

3. Sasha Velour: A keen fashionista, it would be fun to see Sasha play against type as the fashion inept Andy, and then stare in awe at how amazing she would look at the movie’s end.

4. Shea Coulee: Another fantastic actress and even more fantastic dresser. She’d not come to play and would definitely slay.

5. Dida Ritz: I’ve always thought Dida did some legit great acting on her season, as well as in the fabulous Real Housewives spoof below. She struggled mightily with fashion in her season, which would have made her a natural for the role.

6. Jujubee: She’d easily pull off the girl next door vibe but make Andy more lovable. We know she’s amazing at being fake slapped, so she would have given them the option to make the dynamic between Miranda and Andy even more contentious.

7. Crystal Methyd: It would be so fun to see her in office attire and she would easily pull off being awkward and scared. Crystal’s casting could easily have lead to Debarge being included on the soundtrack, to which there is no downside.

8. Manila Luzon: My favorite queen on the runway and a serviceable actress. I think she’d have camped the role way up and undoubtedly would have looked amazing at all of the premieres.

Alright my dears- see you next week to debrief the snatch. Stay safe and let the music play!
